Barden Receives Outstanding Alumni Award
Charles Barden, Ph.D., has received an 'Outstanding Alumni for 2013' award from the Forest Resources Alumni Group at Pennsylvania State University.  Dr. Barden graduated from Penn State in 1989.  In the photo Dr. Barden is receiving an engraved plaque from Dr. Michael Messina, Head of the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management.  Awards & Honors

Lavis Honored With Excellence in Education Award
The Irrigation Foundation has named Cathie Lavis, Ph.D., of Kansas State University, the recipient of the 2013 Excellence in Education Award.  The Excellence in Education Award recognizes an educator who is actively teaching irrigation, water management and/or water conservation in affiliation with a two- or four-year institution.  Awards & Honors

Two Hort Students Graduate Magna Cum Laude
In the Spring 2013 graduating class Rebecca Bohling and James Craven graduated Magna Cum Laude.   Rebecca and James both received their awards from Dean Floros and their adviser Dr. Kim Williams.

Williams Recognized for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning with Award
Kim Williams, Professor of Greenhouse Management, has been recognized by K-State's College of Ag Innovations in Teaching, Learning and Assessment Program with a 2013 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Award, which includes $500 and travel funds to present SoTL research.

College of Agriculture Scholars Program
James Craven completed the College of Agriculture Scholars Program in horticulture in May 2013.  The title of his research project was Protoplast Isolation Protocols.  James' academic adviser was Dr. Kim Williams and his project adviser was Dr. Sunghun Park.

Hort Student Graduates Summa Cum Laude
In Spring 2013, Justin Brock graduated Summa Cum Laude.   He received his award from Dean Floros and his adviser Dr. Cathie Lavis.  Justin is pursuing a M.S. degree in Hort in the 3+2 program which allowed him to begin graduate work while completing his B.S. degree.

College of Agriculture Scholars Program
Justin Brock graduated from the College of Agriculture Scholars Program in horticulture in May 2013.  The title of his research project was Effects of Irrigation Water Alkalinity upon Growth of Containerized Thuja x 'Green Giant'.  Justin's academic adviser was Dr. Cathie Lavis and his project adviser was Dr. Jason Griffin.

Women's Studies & Horticulture faculty publish co-written essay
The Women's Studies Department Congratulate Dr. Valerie Padilla Carroll and Dr. Rhonda Janke for their recently published co-written essay.

Wilson Receives Teaching Award
Matthew Wilson, Ph.D. graduate student, has received the Richard Elmore Brown Outstanding College of Agriculture Graduate Student Teaching Award.  Matt was one of two Ph.D. graduate students recognized this year for the award in the College of Agriculture.
